John Chick, (73), passed away in the early morning of May 22nd surrounded by family at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
John was raised in New Brunswick, NJ as a first generation citizen born to parents of Greek descent. He graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1967 and completed a degree from Trenton Technical Institute in 1969. John had a lengthy career in the trucking and transport industry. For most of his career, he owned and operated C&A Transport in South River with his best friend, Larry Arnese.
John was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, the White Mountains Cretans Fraternity, and the Union Chapter of the Masonic Lodge. He was an antique car enthusiast who proudly owned a 1929 Ford Model A Roadster and a 1956 Ford Thunderbird Convertible and found joy in being a member of the Garden State Street Rod Association.
John is survived by his wife, Catherine, of thirty-six years; daughter Sophia Kordopatis and her husband George; son Steven Chick and his wife Rebecca; two grandchildren Eva and Clyde. He was predeceased by his parents Steven and Sophia Chick as well as his brother, Leon Chick.
Visitation will take place on Thursday from 5-8 PM at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset. Services will begin Friday morning at 9 AM at the funeral home followed by a 10 AM service at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Piscataway. Interment will proceed to Van Liew Cemetery in North Brunswick.
